Supervision in Care Homes

Supervision provides an opportunity to communicate purpose, manage performance, appraise, support and develop staff. It is a means of ensuring that the needs of individual workers are met and that they are able to do their job to the best of their ability

Learning Outcomes

On completion of the course delegates wil:

  • Be aware of the National Minimum Standards required
  • Understand the purpose of supervision and the role of both the supervisor and supervisee
  • Understand the use of verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Be aware of the role supervision plays in staff development

  • The purpose of supervision and the role of the supervisor
  • How can supervision be given?
  • Supervisory skills
  • Verbal and non-verbal communication
  • Listening skills
  • What may hinder communication?
  • Delegation and staff development

The course contains group exercises where carers can discuss and exchange their experiences. Practical advice is given on how delegates may contribute to and benefit from the supervision process and how that effects standards of care.

This one day course is available to be conducted at your premises for groups of up to 15 candidates.
